My room had a fantastic sea view, with a fabulous sunset each evening.
The four‑star hotel is on San Eugenio’s promenade, with Bobo Beach directly opposite. Its entrance and reception are on the other side of the building, set back from a main road with plenty of pedestrian crossings.
Bars, cafés, shops and a supermarket are just a few moments’ walk away. A small cluster of bus stops is outside if you’d like to explore further afield.

Service
I found the service excellent. Staff were warm, friendly and helpful across all areas of the hotel.

Atmosphere and décor
I loved the quirky, folk‑art‑style murals on a lower floor, and a generously stocked book swap in its own reading room. I was spoiled for choice.Sustainability is taken seriously. Alongside the usual bathroom towel guidance, the hotel avoids single‑use plastics, providing glass decanters in rooms and water stations by the lifts on every floor. A supply of inflatables and family games is left for communal use at the children’s pool.
My room was quite basic but spotless, bright and serviced daily.

Pool area
The largest pool has a bold, decorative triangular structure at its centre that looks lovely against the blue sky and water. During my spring visit, the pool wasn’t particularly popular due to feeling cool, but I swam daily and found it bearable, and fine once I was in. Although all pools are officially heated, temperatures can still feel refreshing in spring.
There are two children’s pools, including a family pool that felt warmer and was busier during my stay. As well as this pool, which is suitable for all ages, there is a younger children’s pool with colourful slides.
Sunbeds are plentiful, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and sociable, especially for a hotel with 503 rooms currently listed. Some loungers are beside glass panelling with beautiful uninterrupted sea views.
A busy pool bar provided good service too.
A €20 cash deposit is requested for pool towels at reception. There’s a handy free cash point just over the road, whereas the one in the foyer charged a fee.
Improvement needed
Lift queues were an issue. At busy times, people grew grumpy as they waited and another full lift passed their floor. I chose the stairs each time, something I’d have done anyway, keen to boost my steps.
Food
I stayed bed and breakfast and was very happy with an extensive choice of cooked, baked, fried and fresh items. Breakfast tortillas and crêpes were made to order. For those on an all‑inclusive deal, food was available at the main restaurant or, during the day, at the Barbacoa poolside snack bar.
Comparison with other Costa Adeje hotels
Compared with Costa Adeje Gran, where I’ve stayed twice, Bouganville Playa felt more modern, light and airy, and in a better position overlooking the sea.
It’s less of a striking building than Guayarmina Princess, where I’ve also stayed, but similar in standards and feel. I’d prefer Bouganville Playa again for its proximity to the sea.
A couple of years ago, I had a wonderful stay at the five‑star Iberostar Sábila Selección. Bouganville Playa was inevitably more laid‑back but shared many aspects of excellent service, with brilliant staff.
Star Prestige
There’s an added premium level available across Iberostar hotels. At Bouganville Playa, this was from around an additional £80 a night per room at my time of visiting, though this depends a lot on the time of year.
It includes access to exclusive areas including two sun terraces with whirlpool baths. Premium rooms are on higher floors for the best sea views.
Solo travel in Costa Adeje
I found Costa Adeje a popular, safe, sociable resort.
Its promenade is well‑lit and lively into the evening, with walkers, runners and families. Bars and cafés are accustomed to solo guests. As anywhere, not everyone is equally welcoming, and occasionally you may feel that you’re attracting a little extra attention as a solo traveller.
At Iberostar Waves Bouganville Playa, warm staff interactions add to this ease. The pool areas are a comfortable, stress‑free environment for independent travellers, and you can talk to people as much or as little as you please.
